●Nichi nichi kore kojitsu (every day is a good day)…meaning that every day is wonderful.
From this, some have interpreted it as saying that we should strive to make every day a good day, or, going further, that it is wrong to think about the good and bad of each day and get happy or sad about it, and that what is important is always the present moment, or that we should accept things as they are.
●Kissako...meaning please come in for some tea.
Facing tea and drinking tea, concentrating on that one thing.
●Wakeiseijaku (harmony, respect, purity, serenity)… Words that show the mindset of the tea ceremony
The meaning is that the host and guests should relax and respect each other, and that the equipment in the tea room and the atmosphere of the tea ceremony should be purified.
It is said to be "Rikyu's four rules and seven rules" in the tea ceremony.
First, make tea in a way that suits your clothes.
2. Place the charcoal so that the water boils.
3. Flowers grow in the fields
4. Cool in summer and warm in winter
5. Set a time limit early
6. Prepare an umbrella even if it doesn't rain.
7. Be considerate of your fellow guests
That's it.
When his disciple asked him to teach him the secrets of the tea ceremony, Sen no Rikyu is said to have replied with these four rules and seven principles.
● Ichigo ichie (once in a lifetime)… A word that describes the practice of tea ceremonies and tea gatherings, which should be performed with sincerity, with the belief that each experience is a once in a lifetime occurrence.
A once in a lifetime encounter. Once in a lifetime.
● Byojoshin koredo (calm mind is the way)… In short, it expresses that the ceaseless activity of the universe and nature is always “calm” and true. It is the state of spending everyday life normally, without being involved in the changes of the natural world.
The Way does not belong to knowledge, nor to ignorance. The ordinary mind is enlightenment.
