Born in 1949, I graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School with a major in ceramics in 1974. After that, I gave up on my plans to study abroad in the US or Europe and returned home because my father was in poor health. At the time of my return, my father was in and out of the hospital repeatedly, and the period I learned from him was short, only about six months, so it didn't feel like I was studying under him.
In 1978, he assumed the name of the 15th generation Sakakura Shinbei. In 1981, he received the NHK Yamaguchi Broadcasting Station Award. In 1983, he received the Asahi Shimbun Award.
1984: Full member of the Japan Crafts Association 2004: Awarded the Yamaguchi Prefecture Award (Arts and Culture Merit)
