Born in Yonago in 1942. While studying at Nihon University, he witnessed the excavation of an old kiln and became fascinated with ceramics. After graduating from Nihon University, he received instruction in the tea ceremony from Tansai Nuri, a potter (master craftsman) from Saitama Prefecture, originally from Ishikawa Prefecture. In 1969, he opened a kiln at the foot of Mt. Kagamiyama. He served as the chairman of the Karatsu Ware Cooperative Association until 2011.
