[Otsue]
Otsu-e is a folk painting that was originally created by Buddhist painters in the Otani and Oiwake areas of Omi (Shiga Prefecture) and was sold cheaply as souvenirs. It is also called "Oiwake-e" or "Otani-e" and is said to have originated in the early Edo period.
In the Genroku period, Basho wrote a haiku that reads, "The brush of Otsu-e begins with what Buddha?", and so Buddhist paintings were painted first. In later years, only the best-selling Buddhist paintings and paintings of flowers and birds were left to be painted and passed down.

In 1952, my father, the third generation, became ill and I started studying painting.
After his death, it seems that Wado's shop is now being run by his wife.
