●What is a Mishima tea bowl? It is a type of Goryeo tea bowl.
The name was given to the tea bowl because the design resembles the Mishima Rekishi, a book that was once published in Mishima, Izu (Shizuoka Prefecture).
It is also said that when Toyotomi Hideyoshi invaded Korea during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, the inlaid patterns on tea bowls made by Korean potters he brought to Japan resembled the Mishima calendar, and so the name Mishima-te/Mishima-mon was given to the practice.
