1954 - Born into the Rakusai family, a representative Shigaraki pottery family in Shigaraki Town, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture
Graduated from Kyoto Prefectural Pottery Training School and Shiga Prefectural Ceramic Research Institute
Learned pottery making under his father, Rakusai, the 4th generation
In 2010, he took on the name of Rakusai V.
While protecting the family business of Rakusaigama, he is currently mainly active in solo exhibitions and special exhibitions. He is well known for his large jars, and his simple and gentle style is characterized by the use of the Shigaraki earthenware and the flavor of wood-fired kilns.
In 1977, the Goyokai was formed under Toyozo Arakawa, and the Goyokai Exhibition was held at the Takashimaya Department Store in Osaka.
