●Bakohan Kasugai (fixing nails)...A light green celadon tea bowl (celadon ring flower bowl) that has been repaired by staple-like fasteners to repair cracks around the base.
It has an elegant shape with taut curves and a beautiful celadon glaze with a slight hint of green.

According to the "Bako-kanzao-ki" written by Confucian scholar Ito Togai in 1727, this masterpiece was given as a gift in return for a gold donation made by Taira no Shigemori to Zen Master Butshou of Mount Ikuo in Hangzhou, China (Southern Song Dynasty) during the late Heian period.
Later, when it was passed on to Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa, it had developed cracks, so it was sent to China (Ming Dynasty) for a replacement, but it was repaired with iron fasteners and sent back, as no equivalent masterpiece could be made.
