*During the Edo period, Awata ware was under the patronage of nobles and feudal lords as garden ware at the gate of Shoren-in Temple. During the Meiji, Taisho and early Showa periods, Awata ware was exported to Europe and the US for sales. After the war, individual artists such as Kusube Yaichi were active. Awata ware had many different faces depending on the era, but it had been discontinued for a long time. The only potter who had lived in Awata since the Edo period was his own family, and he decided to take up the path of pottery making in an attempt to somehow revive his historic name.
