●Bakohan is a representative masterpiece of celadon tea bowls handed down in Japan.
According to the "Bako-kin Chawan-ki" (The Record of the Tea Bowl Used by the Edo period Confucian scholar Ito Togai), the Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa of the Muromachi period once possessed this tea bowl, but when it developed a crack, he sent a request for a replacement from China. However, during the Ming Dynasty, no such bowl was available in China, so the crack was repaired with an iron clamp and the replacement was sent back.
This rivet was named the "Bakouki-ni" (Locator Locust Bondage) because it resembled a large locust.
