What is Odo-yaki?
In 1653, the second feudal lord, Tadayoshi Yamauchi, invited the potter Masanori Kuno from Osaka to open a kiln in Odo (present-day Ozu Town).
In 1820, the third year of the Bunsei era, the kiln was moved to Nochayama, and for nearly 180 years clay was transported from Nochayama to Odo for production.
In the past, Odo ware was used as a gift for the Shogunate and feudal lords, and is still popular at tea ceremonies today.
