What is the Ninsei Gold and Silver Diamond Tea Bowl? The original is a colored gold and silver diamond patterned tea bowl made by Nonomura Ninsei, and is said to have been commissioned by Munekazu to be made as a gift for Tofukumon'in (the Empress Dowa of Emperor Gomizunoo and daughter of the second Tokugawa Shogun, Hidetada).
These are nested bowls in which the silver diamond design bowl and the gold diamond design bowl fit snugly inside each other. They are made thinly, a style unique to Ninsei, who was known as a master of the potter's wheel, and are carved into a neat shape with a slightly bulging body.
The rim is painted gold and red, and to accentuate this, the entire inside is coated with Ninsei's distinctive jet black glaze.
On the outside, the white base is effectively retained, while the gold and silver diamond pattern and stylized lotus petal pattern bordered in red create an innovative decoration.
The earthenware of each foot is covered with a transparent glaze, and a small oval seal with the name "Ninsei" is stamped inside the foot.
Later, it was passed down from Sagami-no-kami Doi to Rikizo Yamazumi and then from the Hirase family to Donno Masuda. It is listed in the "Taisho Meikikan."
Size: Silver (approx. diameter 9.8 x height 9 cm)
Gold (approx. diameter 8.7 x height 8 cm)
