●祇園祭（ぎおんまつり）…京都市東山区の八坂神社（祇園社）の祭礼で、明治までは「祇園御霊会（御霊会）」と呼ばれた。
7月1日から1か月間にわたって行われる長い祭である。
祭行事は八坂神社が主催するものと、山鉾町が主催するものに大別される。一般的には山鉾町が主催する行事が「祇園祭」と認識されることが多い。
その中の山鉾行事だけが重要無形民俗文化財に指定されている。
