Born in 1938, Imakumano, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City. Graduated from the Faculty of Letters, Osaka City University.
Grandfather: Master Kutani ware craftsman "Ungai"
Father and teacher: Kyoto artist and Nitten artist, Tsutsugi Kansai. Studied Japanese painting under Ikeda Michio. Received ceramic art instruction from his father, Kansai. He applied his Japanese painting skills to painting and produced delicate, pictorial-style Kyoto-style tea ware.
