An event to pray for the healthy growth of boys
・The "Han" in Tango means the "edge" of something and the beginning. (The "Uma" in Tango is the horse of the Chinese zodiac.)
・The Chinese zodiac sign of horse corresponds to May in the lunar calendar.
・Tango was celebrated as a festival on the first day of the horse in May.
The character "go" in "Tango" changed to "go" and then to "5," and the Tango Festival came to be celebrated on May 5th.
●What are chimaki and kashiwamochi? What is the difference between chimaki in the west and kashiwamochi in the east?
That is the difference between Eastern and Western culture.
Zongzi was originally introduced when the Boys' Festival was introduced from China during the Heian period, and quickly spread throughout the country.
Later, when the Boys' Festival became one of the five seasonal festivals during the Edo period, the auspicious kashiwamochi spread and became mainstream in Edo, while Kamigata, which values ​​tradition, passed down the chimaki.

The origin of chimaki dates back to about 2,300 years ago in China, to a poet named Qu Yuan.
Qu Yuan served as a close aide to the king, but was overthrown by a conspiracy and exiled from the country.
He wrote a long narrative poem called "Li Sao" that described his feelings at that time, but it is said that Qu Yuan, disillusioned with the future of his country, threw himself into a river called Miluo.
That day is said to be May 5th.
The people mourned Qu Yuan's death, and to prevent him from sinking into the river and being eaten by the fish, they mourned him by beating drums from small boats to scare the fish away and by throwing offerings into the river. However, the offerings were always stolen by an evil dragon before they could reach Qu Yuan.
So they wrapped the glutinous rice in the leaves of the elm tree, which dragons hate, and tied it with five-colored thread (red, blue, yellow, white, and black) to ward off evil spirits before letting it float down the river, and it is said that it would then arrive safely at Qu Yuan.
There are various theories that it may be linden tree, chigaya tree, or bamboo grass.
This was the beginning of chimaki, and in China the custom of making chimaki on May 5th to ward off evil spirits was established, and chimaki was introduced to Japan along with the Boys' Festival.
Additionally, the five colored threads tied to the chimaki (red, blue, yellow, white, and black) are meant to ward off evil spirits and ensure the safe growth of children, and these colors are also reflected in the colors of the carp streamers' streamers.

While chimaki was introduced from China, kashiwamochi is originally from Japan and was created in the Edo period.
The oak tree that wraps kashiwamochi has long been considered a sacred tree, and because its old leaves do not fall until new shoots appear, kashiwamochi is associated with the idea that "parents do not die until children are born," meaning that "there will be no end to heirs" and "prosperity of descendants." Kashiwamochi became an auspicious food for the Boys' Festival, and spread mainly in Edo.
In addition, in western regions where oak is difficult to obtain, the round leaves of the Salvia serrata are often used.
