Shozui is a type of blue and white porcelain that was made in a private kiln in Jingdezhen at the end of the Ming Dynasty in China by order from Japan. It has a moist base and a beautiful blue color.
The name Shozui comes from the fact that one of his representative pieces has a blue-and-white inscription on the bottom that reads "Made by Gora Daiho and Kure Shozui."

[Suda Seika, originally named Yosaburo]
Born in Kaga (Ishikawa Prefecture)
Born in Bunkyu 2nd year - passed away on April 10th, 1927. He was 66 years old.
He studied pottery painting at the Ishikawa Prefectural Industrial Testing Center and researched pottery making in Kyoto.
From 1883 he worked in overglaze painting at the Kutani Pottery Company, and when the company was dissolved in 1890 he opened his own kiln.
In 1906, the Seikagama kiln (climbing kiln) was opened.

In 1981, following the death of his father, the third generation Suda Seika, he took over the name of the fourth generation.
