●Queen Mother of the West (Xi Wang Mu)...An ancient Chinese mythological goddess. She lives in the Kunlun Mountains in the west, and in the Shan Hai Jing (Shan Hai Jing) she is depicted as half-man, half-beast, but was later portrayed in a more beautiful form. Known for her immortality and longevity, King Mu of the Zhou dynasty met her on his way to the west, and Emperor Wu of the Han dynasty bestowed upon her the peach of immortality.
Noh play. Side Noh play. The Queen Mother of the West descends from heaven to King Mu of Zhou, and performs a celebratory dance, offering peach blossoms and fruit that bloom once every 3000 years.
