The school of tea ceremony that began with Matsuo Soji
The founder of the Matsuo family was Tsuji Gen'ya, who was adopted into the Tsuji family of Sakai and ran a kimono shop (under the trade name Sumi-ya) in Kyoto.
The first Matsuo Soji (Rakushisai) was originally born in Omi and was adopted into the Matsuo family. He initially studied tea ceremony under Machida Shuha and mastered the secret techniques under the 6th head of the Omotesenke school, Kakushisai.
