Born in Yamagata Prefecture in 1916. Studied under the intangible cultural property holder, Mr. Jiro Negoro. In 1977, he was recognized as a national traditional craftsman and was awarded the title of "Okamashi" by Daitokuji Temple in Kyoto. In 1989, he was awarded the Saito Mokichi Cultural Award. In 1992, he was awarded the Sixth Class Order of the Sacred Treasure. In 1996, he passed away.
