●Shofu (pine wind)...the wind that blows through the pine trees.
The sound of water boiling in a kettle during the tea ceremony.
● Kanza shoufu wo kiku (listening to the pine wind while sitting quietly)… Throw away all distracting thoughts, sit quietly and simply listen to the sound of the pine wind. If your mind is in a hurry, you often won't notice. If you sit quietly and listen carefully, you will be able to hear a clear sound.
Sit quietly and listen to the sound of the wind blowing through the pines (the sound of the water boiling in the kettle). ● Shoufujingai no kokoro...This refers to the state of mind in which your mind is cleansed by the sound of the pine wind (the sound of the water boiling and the tea kettle ringing) and you are freed from the dust of the secular world. In the tea room, you should forget about worldly matters and listen to the sound of the water boiling in the kettle.
● Shofu satsu satsu no ko (Shoufu satsu satsu no ko) Shofu satsu satsu ko, Shofu satsu satsu ko, Shofu satsu satsu ko... In the "Final Performance" of the Noh play "Takasago," there is a line that says, "On the Final Performance, the people are caressed, and on the Banzai Performance, life is saved. The pine winds of symbiosis, their dashing voice is a joy, their dashing voice is a joy." The body and mind are enveloped in the pine wind, and one enters a state of calm and selflessness.
