● Willows are green and flowers are red (Yamagi wa midori wa nakurenai)… The willows have green branches and red flowers are in full bloom. At first, all you can see is the difference in the various phenomena.
After completing the training, one can see things as they really are, but it is a completely different world than what one saw at the beginning.
● Seizanryokusui (Green Mountain and Green Water)…The season of fresh green leaves and the harmonious appearance of all things
The mountains are green and the water is green as it was. "When you see it, the mountains are green and the water is green as it was before. The bright moon and the clear breezes are just as they were before."
Fudo Roku: It says that one can travel around the green mountains and green waters of Ichijo.
●Kouunryusui (flowing clouds and water)… A metaphor for not getting too attached to things and just letting nature take its course, like the moving clouds and flowing water. It is also a metaphor for something that does not have a fixed form, but flows naturally and is not stagnant.
"Gyōun" means clouds passing through the sky. "Ryūsui" means flowing water. It is also sometimes used as an analogy for Zen monks who travel around the country to train.

The temple was founded in 1579 by three people, Ishida Mitsunari, Asano Yukinaga, and Mori Tadamasa, with the founder being the Priest Shun'yaku, and is famous as the training ground for Priests Takuan and Sen Sotan.
Among the disciples of the monk Haruya were the monks Gyokumuro and Kogetsu Sogan, who fought against the evil decrees of the Tokugawa Shogunate and showed the dignity of Daitokuji to the world. It is well known that Konoe Nobutada, Kuga Atsuyuki, Furuta Oribe, Yabuuchi Kenchu, Kobori Enshu, Kuroda Nagamasa, Kuwayama Shigeharu, Seta Sobe, and Yamaoka Somuto all practiced Zen here.
