●What is a Tanzakubako? It is a long, narrow, portable chest of drawers with a lid and three shelves inside, for storing tea.
The water container has a lid rest built into the base, a water jar on the first shelf, a tea bowl on the second shelf, and a tea caddy on the third shelf, with a ladle hung in the notch on the left side.
It got its name from the fact that short strips of paper are pasted on the inside of the lid and left open when guests are present for outdoor tea ceremonies, and is also known as a "tanzaku dansu" (short strips of paper chest of drawers).
Since it was invented by Kanamori Sowa, it is also called the "Souwa chest of drawers."
