A travel chest is a square box made of paulownia wood with a lid and recessed metal handles. There are handle bars on both sides. This is a portable chest of drawers for making tea, with two shelves.
A water jar is placed on the base, a tea caddy and tea bowls are placed on the middle shelf, and there is a notch on the left side of the upper shelf where a ladle can be hung.
*Both the hearth and the brazier can be used.
Also known as the "Rikyu chest," it is said to have been invented by Sen no Rikyu when he accompanied Toyotomi Hideyoshi to the Siege of Odawara.
It is said that Rikyu liked this chest of drawers, which was made of paulownia wood and was based on a Chinese chest of drawers that had a lock and handles for easy carrying that belonged to Zeniya Munenori.
