●What is a Chisokudana? It is a small shelf made of blue-lacquered paulownia wood with black painted edges, two pillars, a circular top with the front cut off, and a square base.
This shelf was favored by the 14th head of the Urasenke school, Sekoso Soshitsu, Mugensai, who was known by his Buddhist name Tantansai.
It is said that the name comes from the shape of the circular tabletop, which has no front part, and is a reference to "knowing contentment" from the Book of Laozi.
*Can be used with both a ro and a furo, and can also be used in reverse.
Size: Top width approx. 37.5cm
