●What is a Kagetsu shelf? It is a double shelf made of cedar wood and with three white bamboo pillars. The top and bottom boards are square with hashibami (edge trim), the middle board is triangular, there are two pillars at the kitchen side and one at the guest side, bamboo nails are driven into the front pillar at the kitchen side, and it is a small shelf with legs on all four sides of the base board.
This shelf was favored by Ennosai Tetsuchu Soshitsu, the 13th head of the Urasenke school.
It got its name from the fact that the entire shelf resembles the folding shelf used in the Shichijishiki flower arrangement ceremony.
