●What is a Genji shelf?...It is a double shelf with four mulberry pillars, with a total height of 17.1 cm, and the shelves are square and made of paulownia wood measuring just under 1 shaku. It is a small shelf with a mulberry wainscot with Genji incense pattern fitted to the side of the kitchen between the middle shelf and the base board.
This shelf was favored by Ennosai Tetsuchu Soshitsu, the 13th head of the Urasenke school.
*Both the ro and the furo can be used, but they should not be used interchangeably.
