●What is a Koun Dana? The top and bottom boards are made of lacquered pine wood, and it is a double shelf with four pillars made of mulberry wood, the middle board is made of maple, the kitchen side boards are made of cherry wood, the guest side boards are made of plum wood with a Koun pattern, and on the other side of the kitchen side boards is a white bamboo with a waistboard made of camellia wood with a running water pattern, and the guest side board is a small shelf with two horizontal bars made of black persimmon wood.
This shelf was favored by the 15th head of the Urasenke school, Hounsai, and head of the Hanso Soshitsu family. This style was popular in 1968, and was named after the "Kouunryusui" meaning "flowing clouds and flowing water" that it features.
