●What is a Kobun Dana?...It is a small shelf with three lacquered pillars, the top and middle boards are triangular insets, and there are side boards with plum blossom design on the two far sides. The lower pillar of the middle shelf has a fin board, and the base board is a square with a small part of the front cut off to form a pentagon.
This shelf was favored by Seisai Keiou Sosa, the 12th head of the Omotesenke school.
This shelf is based on the Kiyamachi shelf, but it does not have the drawers of the Kiyamachi shelf, and the Kohasama-sushi pattern is replaced with plum blossom pattern. The name comes from the fact that plums are called "Kobunboku" (favourite tree).
This shelf was popular for the tea offering ceremony at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto in 1922.
