●What is a Ryuseidana? It is a small shelf made of cedar wood with a square top and base board, a small pillar standing on the guest side and the top board inserted into the top, and a horizontal board carved into a half-moon shape attached to the kitchen side. Inside the half-moon is a ladle handle and it is woven with wisteria vines.
This shelf was favored by the 14th head of the Urasenke school, Mugensai Sekoso Soshitsu, who was known by his Buddhist name Tantansai. This was a favorite of Empress Teimei when she offered tea at the Omiya Palace.
The name comes from the fact that it depicts a "ladle handle window" made from the handle of a used ladle found at the end of a brazier in the Urasenke Tameseiken tea pit.
*Can be used with both ro and furo.
