●What is a Yoshino shelf? It is a small shelf made of paulownia wood with Shunkei lacquer, with four pillars made of Yoshino logs with the bark still on them, a waistboard with a circular window carved into the guest area, and a sliding screen over the hearth and a reed door over the brazier.
This shelf was favored by Ennosai Tetsuchu Soshitsu, the 13th head of the Urasenke school.
This shelf was designed to commemorate the tea offering ceremony that was held when Ihoan and its Onigawaraseki, built by the wealthy merchant Haiya Joeki who bought Yoshino Tayu's freedom, were moved to Kodaiji Temple in Kyoto in 1922.The shelf was designed based on the Yoshino window of Ihoan, which Yoshino Tayu liked.
*Can be used with both hearths and braziers.
