●What is a Kotobuki shelf?...It is a small shelf made of pine wood with an urushi lacquer finish, with a base board that is 1 shaku 1 sun 4 bu square and an octagonal top board, the edges of the top and base boards are painted black wax, and it has two pillars with openwork on all four sides and cloud-shaped openwork fin boards on the top and bottom.
This shelf was favored by the 14th head of the Urasenke school, Mugensai Sekoso Soshitsu, who was known by his Buddhist name Tantansai.
This was favored on the occasion of the Imperial Enthronement in 1928, and was originally a ``Kikuju shelf'' with an octagonal paulownia wood top and a chrysanthemum stand, but it was later redesigned and favored.
*Can be used with both ro and furo.
