●What is a mulberry small table? It is a small shelf made of mulberry wood, with a long and slender shape and a total height of 17.1 inches (1 shaku 7 sun 1 bu), with four pillars that are 3/4 corners and 1/4 chamfered. The top and middle boards are the same size, while the base board is slightly larger. The middle shelf is 2 inches (sun) higher and lower than the base board, and the space between the middle shelf and the base board forms a holy foot.
The table top has a rounded Karado surface, and the edge of the base board is cut into a Yahazu shape, resembling the rear part of an arrow feather.
It is said that the 4th head of the Urasenke school, Senso Soshitsu, favored this piece for use on the floor, and it is said to have been combined with a celadon hakama-goshi incense burner on top and a gourd-shaped narrow-mouthed flower vase on the bottom.
It is said that the 7th head of the Omotesenke school, Joshinsai Tennen Sosa, first began using it for tea ceremonies.
