[Tea utensils/tea ceremony tools/shelves] Cedar shelf, a copy of Gengensai's favorite, made by Kobayashi Kosai, for use with hearth and brazier

●What is a sugidana (cedar shelf)? It is a double shelf made of Satsuma cedar, with a square top and bottom board and a middle shelf that can be moved back and forth. The guest and kitchen shelves are side boards, with a large openwork opening at the top of the side boards, a bamboo nail at the kitchen shelf and a small shelf carved into the shape of a spool at the bottom.
This shelf was favored by Gengensai Seichu Soshitsu, the 11th head of the Urasenke school.
Also known as the Gengen shelf, it is said that when Gengensai was inspecting the storehouse of the Tayasu family, he repurposed an unused Satsuma cedar chest that was in the storehouse into this shelf. (The shelf will be shipped assembled.)
