A kettle maker from the Sen family
The Onishi family is a Kyoto kettle maker family that has been around for over 400 years since the late Muromachi period. The fourth head of the family was named Seiemon, and every head of the family from the sixth to the ninth generation has inherited the name Seiemon.
The studio is located in Sanjo Kamanza in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, and the Onishi Seiemon Museum is also located there.
The current head of the family is the 16th generation, Seiemon.
----------
The Ten Senke Craftsmen are...an honorific title for ten craftsmen, such as lacquerers and joiners, who are involved in the tea ceremony and frequent the three Senke schools (Omotesenke, Urasenke, and Mushakojisenke). They were reorganized into the current Ten Craftsmen during the Meiji period. (There is also a theory that the Mitsukoshi department store was the creator of the name during the Taisho period.)
