●Dharma charcoal container...A charcoal container made of bamboo with a wide torso, owned by Sen no Rikyu, used in the sumidemae ceremony, in which the host puts charcoal into the hearth or brazier in front of guests.
It is a large pot with a round mouth and a wide body, and is used in hearths.
It is called the "Daruma basket" because of its comfortable seating shape, and many copies have existed since ancient times.
The Daruma charcoal container owned by Rikyu has "Sumimi to Satoya" written by Sen no Rikyu in ink on the front of the lid of the inner cedar box, and "Sen Soeki" on the bottom of the box.
There is a sticker by Sen Sotan on the bottom of the inner box that reads, "Tatsuma (signature seal) owned by Rikyu," and the outer box is by Joshinsai, accompanied by letters from Kakusensai and Shinpaku.
The box was designed by Rokujosai, and on the inside of the lid, the priest Manjin of Daitokuji Temple has written, "A famous item in the world (monogram) in the possession of Rikyu."
