Choju Jingutsugiga (Choju Jinbutsu Giga) is a paper-based ink painting scroll handed down at Kosan-ji Temple in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City. It is a national treasure and is also known as Choju Jinbutsu Giga. It is currently made up of four volumes, called Ko, Otsu, Hei, and Dei. The content reflects the social conditions of the time and depicts animals and people in a caricatured style, making it a culmination of caricatures that began with Okoe. Volume Ko is particularly famous for its anthropomorphized depictions of rabbits, frogs, monkeys, and other creatures. Some scenes use techniques similar to the effects used in modern manga, and it is also known as "Japan's oldest manga."
