When hanging a kettle on a furo or ro without using a trivet, a clapper-shaped piece of wood placed on the edge of the furo or ro to create a gap between the furo or ro and the kettle to improve ventilation is called a sukigi.Since the wings of the kettle rest on this piece of wood to support it, the term sukigi refers to a kettle that is hung against a sukigi.
