Black Raku tea bowl, inscribed Meng-ge, copy of Yamada Soen. It is interesting that the inscribed "Meng-ge" and the tea master Ishikawa Ji-an of Okazaki wrote that it is very similar to a "Hachi-kai" tea bowl, the existence of which is unknown at present. It is interesting that both Soen and Ji-an, two great tea masters from Mikawa and disciples of Sotan, wrote the inscriptions, and it is likely that this tea bowl had a connection with Sotan.
The shape of the piece is a semi-cylindrical shape with a clearly defined low waist and a tight body, with a thin rim that is carved inward. The overall black glaze has a brownish, flaked surface that shows many variations.
