[First Generation Nakamura Dotoshi (real name Nakamura Shintaro)] Pen name Ikkyu-an Alias ​​Kanie Dotoshi
Born in Minamiyamashiro Tominosho, Kyoto
He trained all over the country and learned the techniques of making various types of ceramics, including Kyo-yaki and Raku-yaki, as well as Goryeo tea bowl copies and blue and white porcelain.
In addition, the artists he studied under include Shimizu Rokubei (3rd year), Takahashi Dohachi IV (5th year), Awataguchi Taizan (2nd year), and Makimizu Zoroku (3rd year).
He then traveled to the Hokuriku and Chugoku regions, stayed with Prince Arisugawa Takehito at Maikohama, produced Raku ware, and traveled to the Tokai region, the Korean peninsula, and the pottery-producing areas of China before returning to Nagoya.
In Nagoya, he stopped by Houraku and was introduced to his teacher, Takamatsu Teiichi III, by Morikawa Joshun'an, whom he later became acquainted with.
With his full support, he was provided with a residence in Yagoto Nanzan, where he built a climbing kiln and a Raku ware kiln and spent his days engrossed in pottery making.
His work was wide-ranging, and he produced ceramics that were close to the masterpieces of traditional pottery, including colored porcelain, Raku ware, Iga copies, Mishima, Gohon, Hakeme, Irabo, blue and white porcelain, and red porcelain.
He was also invited by the connoisseur Watanabe Tadakazu of Kanie, Kaifu County, to build a kiln there and fire tea bowls and other items.
With the support of Sadakazu Takamatsu, he built kilns in Yagoto, Showa Ward, and Chausuyama, Obata, Moriyama Ward.
Died of illness in the autumn of 1937, aged 62
