Born in Yamanaka-cho, Ishikawa Prefecture in 1917. Studied under Maki-e artist Shuho Sakata. Became a member of the Ishikawa branch of Japanese traditional crafts in 1931. Certified traditional craftsman in 1979. Currently working on projects with his eldest son.
