●What is Yugao?...A flower that blooms in early summer, named after the fact that its white flowers bloom in the evening and wilt by morning.
It was already being cultivated during the Heian period, and has been the subject of works such as The Pillow Book and The Tale of Genji.
Kanpyo (dried gourd) is made from the fruit of the evening primrose.
The reason it is called kanpyo is because the fruit of the evening primrose is called "fukube" (gourd), and it is this that is dried.
