Born in Yamanaka-cho, Ishikawa Prefecture in 1942. Studied under his father in 1946. Awarded the Forestry Agency Commissioner's Award at the Mitsukoshi Main Store in Tokyo in 1982. Received the Urasenke tea master's name Sokyo in 1987. Received the Urasenke associate professorship in 1992. Studied pottery under Kaga Koto Ueno Yoichi in 1994.
