Takatori ware is said to have begun in around 1600, when the feudal lord Kuroda Nagamasa, who brought back potter Hachiyan from the Korean Peninsula during the Bunroku-Keicho Wars, opened a kiln at the foot of Mount Takatori in what is now the eastern suburbs of Nogata City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
