A Shinnoteoke is a water jar in the shape of a barrel with a Shin-nuri handle. It has a hoop on the body and bottom, low legs on three sides of the bottom, and a split lid. It is a dish that comes with a side of pork.
It is said that Murata Juko liked the lacquered tub that was originally in Higashiyama Palace because of its cedar wood, and used it as a water jar with rattan hoops on the top and bottom. Later, Takeno Joo repainted it with real lacquer and used it as a stand. This is called a "Mateoke."
Sho'o prefers large ones, while Rikyu prefers small ones.
In the tea ceremony records, it first appears in 1539 (Tenbun 8), was most common from the Eiroku era (1558-1570) to around 1585 (Tensho 13), peaked around 1580 (Tensho 8), and its use began to decline around 1586 (Tensho 12), dropped dramatically in 1588 (Tensho 14), and was replaced by a rapid increase in the use of tsurube mizujars.

Place two legs at the front and one at the back under the main body. Open the front cover and place it on top of the back cover.
