Born in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture in 1923.
Graduated from Tokyo Higher Technical School (now Chiba University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Craft Design) in 1943.
In 1951, his ceramic sculpture "Cow" was selected for the Nitten Exhibition for the first time.
In 1965, he visited Europe and the Middle East as part of a delegation from the Contemporary Crafts and Artists Association.
In 1967, he became a member of the Nitten Exhibition.
In 1969, he took on the name of the 13th Nakazato Tarouemon.
In 1981, he received the Prime Minister's Award for his "Tataki Karatsu Mishima Hand-made Jar."
In 1984, he received the Japan Art Academy Prize for his work "Tapped Karatsu Mishima Hand-Held Bottle."
In 1985, he became a director of the Nitten Exhibition.
In 1992, it was recognized as an important intangible cultural asset by Saga Prefecture.
In 1995, he received the Karatsu City Government Merit Award and the Navy Blue Ribbon Medal in the same year.
1997: Re-awarded the Medal with Dark Blue Ribbon
2000 Appointed as Chairman of the Japan Artisans Association (Japan Artisans Association)
In 2002, his eldest son, Tadahiro, passed on his name to him, became a monk, and took the name Hoan.
2004: Awarded a doctorate from Kyoto University of Art and Design
December 2007: Becomes a member of the Japan Art Academy
2008: Received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon
He passed away on March 12, 2009 due to chronic myeloid leukemia at the age of 85.
