●This is a nail used to hang a hanging vase from the ceiling of a tokonoma alcove using a chain.
●The hook is struck on the ceiling of the tokonoma, towards the lower seat, one-third of the way across the tokonoma in a daime tokonoma, and one-quarter of the way across the tokonoma in a tokonoma of one ken or larger. There are two ways to strike the hook: either with the tip facing towards the centre of the tokonoma (Urasenke) or with the tip facing towards the lower seat (Omotesenke).
