[Tea utensils/tea ceremony tools incense holder] Dry lacquer Tokin (helmet cap) made by Ajiji Grain Tawara
Product Code: kougou-27
●Tokin: A hood made of black cloth worn by mountain ascetics of Shugendo.
The black color represents worldly desires, and the folds represent the twelve causal factors. It is said that the ordinary and the holy are one and the same, and that the wearer is one and the same entity as Dainichi Nyorai and Acala.
Instead of a helmet cap, some people use a crown made of white bleached cotton that wraps around the head and hangs down on either side of the face. Also, a tea bowl with a protruding center and a similar appearance to the helmet cap worn by mountain ascetics is called a helmet cap.
