What is Oniwa-yaki?
The first generation was Goto Myodo, and the pottery was produced by the potter Eiko Myodo at the Mandokoro kiln of Kodaiji, which was built at Entoku-in temple.
Entoku-in is a historic temple where Lady Kita no Mandokoro moved to enshrine the soul of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The palace where she lived is called "Eikoin-den" and all successive chief priests of Entoku-in have taken that name.
The Mandokoro Kiln was produced at Entoku-in Temple and has the "Mandokoro Kiln" pottery seal on the side of the foot.
It is said that there used to be a kiln called the "Kodaiji Kiln" at Kodaiji Temple, but the current kiln is the Kodaiji Garden Kiln, which was established by the first chief priest (Myodoshi).
