● Bamboo Grove Cat-Connected Design Nishiki (Chikurin Nekotsunagi Mon Nishiki)…The tweezer-shaped sword was a sword used by high-ranking military officers in the Konoe-fu, an office where the children of influential aristocrats gathered, but only a few examples remain today.
The most luxurious of these is this sword, which features engraved motifs of treasure flowers and a design of a cat chasing a sparrow in a bamboo forest on the scabbard, made of glittering mother-of-pearl on a gold-dusted background.
The humorous image of a cat, created using the finest techniques from the Heian period, is woven into a vertical brocade pattern.
