What is a Naganoshi? A decoration for the first tea ceremony of the year
In the alcove of the tea room, decorations such as knotted willows, Maruyama treasures, and long noshi are placed to suit the New Year.
Place a paper kettle mat on the other side of the knotted willow and decorate it with incense holders and other ornaments.
Naganoshi (long noshi) was originally made by pounding and stretching abalone, and the name comes from noshi awabi.
Nowadays, abalone is no longer used and it is made to resemble noshi abalone.
