Rinzai sect Daitokuji subtemple
It was founded in 1608 by Gyokushitsu Sohaku and built by Matsuko (Hoshun-in), the wife of Maeda Toshiie, the founder of the Kaga domain with one million koku of rice.
It was named Hoshun-in after the temple's Buddhist name and became the family temple of the Maeda family.
The original building was destroyed by fire in 1796, but was rebuilt two years later by the 11th head of the Maeda family, Maeda Harunobu.
